Established in 1948, the National Academy of Theater and Film Arts “Krastyo Sarafov” is the first Bulgarian higher school in the field of stage and screen arts and one of the most prestigious European educational institutions of its kind.

The Student Council is the body that protects the common interests of students, PhD students and specializing students at NATFA. It works in accordance with the provisions of the Law on Higher Education, NATFA’s Rules of Organization and Activity and its own Statute, approved by the Council.

Key priority of the Student Council is to maintain a balance between the representation of students’ interests in front of the Academy’s management, and to also present the viewpoints of the Rector’s Office and different elected management bodies to the students. This is usually a very difficult task which the Student Council aspires to fulfil with energy, constructivism, initiative and persistence. The Council actively participates in NATFA’s management bodies for ensuring that the management decisions are taken in consideration with the students’ interests. The Student Council is a useful unit both for the students and the Academy, as it acts as a ‘vigilant eye” – looking at the educational process as a whole without focusing only on the students’ rights.

Because of the intensive daily routine in the Academy, sometimes the Students Council is not in the focus, but the students community spirit is always alive.

In summary, the work of SC is not only useful for the students, but it also aims at building a community out of NATFA’s students. Everything that the SC organizes and completes aims at facilitating the learning process, following up the internal rules, encouraging creativity, intellectual capacity, entertainment and creating a community climate of young, cohesive, talented and worthy “aristocrats of the spirit”.
