ABOUT THE PROGRAMME

The education in the programme provides a wide variety of theoretical knowledge and practical abilities; the students acquire professional habits for teamwork. During the educational process, the students defend projects, which they realize as yearly course works – storyboards and films from different genres of animation – in the Training audiovisual complex of the Academy.

After the interdisciplinary education in the first year, the priorities are focused on drawing and painting, classic animation, animation storyboard and layout, 3D digital animation, digital editing of the image, animation directing, computer graphics, previsualization, creating virtual and augmented reality. The compulsory subjects are supplemented by courses in: history of plastic arts, history of world and Bulgarian cinema, history of animation, modeling, mythology and religion, aesthetics and psychology.

 

FORM OF EDUCATION

The studies are only full-time, 4-years period. The education is completed by a public diploma defense of an animation film, with a length of minimum 2 minutes, and a theoretical work – at least 25 pages.

 

QUALIFICATION AND PROFESSIONAL OPPORTUNITIES

The graduates  acquire the educational qualification degree of Bachelor, with the professional qualification of “Director of animation films” and the opportunity to work as animators in the whole production/creative process of the creation of film and TV productions; as experts in the field of film and TV production; experts in other fields of audiovisual production and new media; the graduates could continue their education in the qualification degree of “Master”.

 

SPECILIAZED EXAM – „Animation“

When submitting their documents, the candidates are required to deposit a complete portfolio. It could contain: screenplays, essays, poems, short stories, plays, novels, paintings, drawings, photographs, films, original music, recordings of songs and music instruments, recordings of music performances and other creative materials by choice of the candidate.

The literary materials must be in PDF format and not be longer than 10 pages. The pictorial materials must be in JPG format. The audiovisual materials must be in MPG-4 format and combined not longer than 15 minutes. The audio materials must be in MP-3 format and combined not longer than 15 minutes.

The point of the portfolio is to present fully the prospect students` abilities, their interests, creative sensibilities and worldview. When submitting the documents, the portfolio is sealed in an envelope with the candidate`s name.

 

 

Stage Ipractical exam (anonymous)

Test for checking the candidates` creative skills. Duration: 6 hours

 

 Sample tasks:

Drawing four different physical positions and states, on set type.

Writing a synopsis for an animated miniature on a set subject and drawing one of the characters in 4-5 different positions. The topic is chosen on the day of the exam.

Finishing the started caricature or text.

 

The candidates who receive a score lower than Average (3.00) drop out of participation in Stage 2.

 

 Stage 2oral exam

The tests of the candidates admitted to Stage 2 are examined by the jury in the presence of each candidate. They analyze the results and respond to questions related to the character`s creation and composition, the dramaturgical and pictorial choices and other components from of the art of animation. The jury interviews the candidates on the materials of the presented portfolio. The aim of this stage is to get an in-depth notion of the candidates` abilities, interests, overall culture, independent thinking and creative perceivability. The candidates who receive a score lower than Average (3.00) drop out of the ranking.
