ABOUT THE PROGRAMME
The dynamic development of media resulting from the use of the digital technologies, requires the appropriate implementation and use of photography. This programme targets students who have diverse professional orientations, e.g. creative, practical, theoretical and research. The scope of the basic disciplines covers: photography in the contemporary visual environment, editing of digital photographic images, photo editing in the mass media, photographic theory and critic, photography and illustration, special effects, animation, digital editing, mixed genres in the commercial photography and photography art, video techniques, semiotics, and a final defense of an author’s project.
The programme is open also to students who have graduated from other higher education institutions in Bulgaria and abroad. In these cases, students follow up a curriculum with increased workload of elective subjects, suggested by the Head of the programme, bringing a specialized knowledge in the field.
GRADUATION
The education process finishes with a public defense of a diploma work, which includes an author’s project – an exhibition of 20 photographs, album, special technique, etc. and a theoretical work – minimum 40 pages.
The graduates acquire the educational qualification degree “Master” with professional qualification “Master of Arts in Photography”. They have the opportunity to work as experts in the field of audiovisual productions and new media, as specialists in the field of restoration, conservation, storage and archiving of photo images, as curators of photo exhibitions and collections.
ADMISSION EXAM
Candidates submit a creative biography and a portfolio. The application package has to include the following:
- A photographic portfolio, containing a minimum of 20 pieces, minimal format 24х30 cm;
- A selection of screenplays, essays, poems, short stories, plays, novels, paintings, drawings, films, original music, performances of songs and music instruments, recordings of musical performances and other artistic materials, based on the candidate’s choice.
Literary materials have to be in a pdf format and not longer than 10 pages. Images outside of the photographic portfolio have to be in jpg format. Audiovisual materials have to be in mpg4 format and overall, no longer than 15 minutes. The sound materials must be in mp3 format and no longer than 15 minutes. The aim of the portfolio is to present in details the photographic potential of the applicants, their interests, artistic endeavors and creative mindset. When submitting the documents, the portfolio is sealed in an envelope with the name of the candidate.
Exam (oral)
An interview with the applicant by the members of the Selection Committee on the presented portfolio. The interview includes also questions on the theory and practice of the arts, aesthetics, social sciences and humanities. The candidate has to present his/her motivation, theoretical, scientific and academic interests, and his/her scientific and creative CV.
